Are you insured?

Yes — fully insured, on every job. It's the first thing you should ask any tree company, and anyone who gets cagey about the answer is telling you something.

Do you give free estimates?

Yes, always free. Grant comes to the property, looks at the tree in person, and talks it through with you. Most of the time you'll have a price before he leaves.

Do you do storm and emergency work?

Yes, 24/7. If a tree is on your house or across your driveway, call at whatever hour it happens — the phone gets answered. Say it's an emergency when you call and you'll get a straight answer about how quickly Grant can get there.

Do you do both trimming and removal?

Both. Trimming and pruning is the work Grant enjoys most and does most often, from routine shaping to badly overgrown trees. Removals include the technical ones — trees over roofs, fences, and sheds that have to be rigged down in pieces.

Do you grind stumps?

Not in-house — we don't own a grinder. Every stump we cut is left flush to the ground, and if you want it ground out we'll arrange that through a trusted partner so it's still just one call for you. We'd rather tell you that plainly than pretend it's our machine.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Windham and cover Portage County and the surrounding areas, including Kent, Ravenna, Streetsboro, Aurora, Mantua, Garrettsville, and Newton Falls. Grant travels up to about an hour in any direction, so if you're outside the county it's still worth a call.

Are you going to make a mess of my yard?

No — this is the part we're known for. Brush and debris get hauled away, stumps are cut flush, and the yard gets raked out before we leave. Cleanup is part of the job, not an add-on.

How do estimates work?

Grant comes out, looks at the tree, checks the access and where limbs can safely come down, and gives you a clear number — usually right there. If something needs checking before he can quote it honestly, he'll tell you that rather than guess. No pressure to decide on the spot.

How soon can you come out?

Call and ask — it depends on the week and on what else is scheduled. Emergency and storm work gets priority and is handled around the clock. For regular trimming and removals, Grant will give you a realistic timeframe instead of an optimistic one.

How much does tree removal cost?

It depends on the tree, which is why we don't publish a price list. Size matters, but so does what's under it, how healthy the wood is, and whether a bucket or a climber can reach it. A small open-yard removal and a dead oak leaning over a garage are different jobs. The estimate is free, Grant looks at the tree in person, and most people have their number before he leaves the driveway.

Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal?

Often, when the tree has hit something: a roof, a garage, a fence. Every policy reads differently, so check with your insurance company before assuming either way. What we can do is give you a clear written estimate for the work, which is what your adjuster is going to ask for anyway.

Who is responsible for a fallen tree?

In most cases in Ohio, the damage is handled by the insurance on the property where the tree landed, even if the trunk stood next door. It can change when a tree was already dead and the owner knew it. We're not insurance people and won't pretend to be. Call your carrier for the coverage question, and call us for the tree.

What counts as a tree emergency?

A tree or limb on your house, garage, car, or power line. A trunk across your driveway. A big limb that cracked in the storm and is hanging over something you care about. If it can't wait until morning, call now. The phone gets answered at any hour, and Grant will tell you honestly whether it needs him tonight or at eight the next morning.

Do I need an arborist or a tree service?

Depends what the tree needs. If you want a written diagnosis of a sick tree or a report for a dispute, that's arborist consulting work. If a tree needs to be trimmed, pruned, or taken down, you need a crew that climbs and cuts, and that's us. Grant has spent ten years in the trees, and if what you really need is a diagnosis rather than a saw, he'll say so.

Why not just leave the stump?

You can, and plenty of people do. We cut every stump flush to the ground, so you're not left with a knee-high post in the lawn. The case for grinding it out: stumps sprout suckers, they're hard on mower blades, and they're where carpenter ants like to set up. If you want the stump gone completely, say so and we'll arrange the grinding through our partner with the same one call.

Is tree work as dangerous as it looks?

It's genuinely dangerous work, which is exactly why it's worth hiring out. Grant has been doing it for ten years, he's fully insured, and he's never damaged a property. The risk is real — the point of hiring a professional is that it's his risk to manage, not yours, and it's managed with training, rigging, and a lot of experience reading trees.
